We are here to help to find the perfect shoes for you – online and in-store!

Getting your childs shoe size right can be tricky.

Little feet are constantly growing and developing so it's important to get it right.

Our online measuring guide will provide a starting point, especially if looking for first shoes or pre-walkers and offer guidance in relation to finding the correct shoe size.

The most accurate way of checking if current shoes still fit is to take out the insoles of the current shoes and place the foot flat on it, lined up at the heel, while standing. If the toes are filling the insoles completely it is time for the next size. If the toes are coming over the top of the insoles in most cases it is possible to go up two sizes.

Ideally, there should be thumb width space at the top for the biggest toe to ensure adequate growing room.

We've a handy A4 printable size guide for you to ensure you measure your childs shoe size correctly. Simply download below and print.

They have a simple philosophy at Bisgaard: “Good fit, quality materials and innovative design.”

The first steps come naturally, as soon as the feet can carry the body-weight and the baby gains confidence and balance. Most babies start walking on their own around 10 to 18 months old.

baby walking

A baby starts pulling him- or herself up from 9 months on. Between 9 to 12 months they are standing on their own and taking the first steps while holding on to what is around them. On average babies can walk by themselves around the 14th to 15th month.

Do not try to overstimulate this process. Every baby develops in their own time, so do not worry if your baby is a few months early or late with walking.

Fun Fact

The first words and first steps are the most special moments for many parents.

During the first months of a baby’s development every body part needs specific care and attention, as do the feet.

At birth, baby feet are fragile. The feet are mainly made up of cartilage and are therefore still tender and very flexible. The bone structure is only really formed in the first year.

The nerve and muscle structure have also not fully developed. During the first year the muscles become firmer, to eventually be strong enough to support the bodyweight.

A little layer of baby-fat protects the baby feet. This gives them that adorable roundness and flatness. When growing older, the arch of the foot develops more and makes the flatfooted-ness disappear.

Feet only begin to function well around the first year. That is the reason why babies usually begin walking around that time.

In the first months it is enough to protect feet against the cold with little slippers or socks.
